From 17th to 20th of May 2018 an annual congress “Poland the Great Project” was held. The Congress is a civic event which is a meeting of expert and opinion making communities. It is being held since 2011 every time gathering a group of distinguished thinkers, important participants of public life as well as a vast audience participating in the debates. The aim of the Congress is to discuss the strategic development challenges standing before Poland and Europe.
Just like last year Janusz Cieślak – President of the European Business Club Poland was a participant of this year’s edition. He was especially interested in panels concerning the issues of economy and Poland’s role and place in the European Union.
On the 19th of May 2018 another field meeting of the Management Board of the European Business Club Poland took place. The theme of the meeting was to discuss the plan of work of the Organisational Committee in the current year as well as international co-operation of the Club. The meeting was held in a Tourist Resort “Targowski Dwór” situated in an idyllic and picturesque place in Mazury called Targowo, beside Szczytno, in the estate of Bartosz Gołębiowski who is a son of the member of the Management Board – Czesław Gołębiowski.
In the part dedicated to international co-operation the following invited guests from Bulgaria took part: Professor at the University of Sophia – Wladimir Atanasow (former Minister for Science and Education as well as the Ambassador of Bulgaria to Slovenia), Swetla Zlatarska – former attaché in the Embassy of Bulgaria in Warsaw ,as well as Daria Tataj PhD. the founder and director of Tataj Innovation – global crowsourcing company.
Prof. W. Atanasow in his speech thank for the invitation to this meeting and emphasized the interest in economic co-operation with our country. He also was grateful for the enthusiasm and friendship with which he got from Polish entrepreneurs which caused that even with greater pleasure he will promote Polish entrepreneurs in Bulgaria. He also passed the wishes of development and success for entrepreneurs in the European Business Club Poland through the Management Board.
Daria Tataj PhD. Discussed in detail the chosen issues from her book published in the United States „Innovation and entrepreneurship: A Growth Model for Europe Beyond the Crisis”. The book researches the process of creating innovation and proposes a model to create innovations on a mass scale. Being based on on new research and extensive experience in the European Institute of Innovation and Technology Daria Tataj PhD. describes the dynamic architecture of global innovation networks, the way in which those networks mingle between themselves and how the ability to switch in between them leads to accumulation of talent, knowledge, skills and capital. Thanks to the analysis of innovation in the United States, China and especially Europe, the book answers the question why innovation centres are established and how this process can be repeated. If we want to create innovations as general directors, entrepreneurs, politicians or university leaders, this book will show precise mechanisms which will allow innovation centres to attract worldwide talents, risk capital and acquire knowledge.
A very hard working and constructive meeting of the Management Board was concluded by a great concert organised in Święta Lipka and a nice and charming evening in a beautiful ballroom of “Targowski Dwór” organised by the welcoming hosts. The guests were served delicacies by the Resort “Targowski Dwór” which also offers massages, relaxation in a mini spa: sauna and jacuzzi. A beautiful countryside and views onto the nearby pond create a pleasurable ambiance both for relaxation as well as for holding various types of conferences.

Over 150 theme session, 900 lectures and a record number of visiting guests – 11,500 thousand participants including over 700 media representatives – in Katowice the 10th jubilee edition of the European Economic Congress (EEC) ended.
10th edition of the European Economic Congress was unique on many levels: record number of attendants both participants and media, record number of sessions, lecturers from all over the world and simultaneously other events taking place. Such an enormous interest of the community proofs that creating space for dialogue and establishing business relations makes sense. “Behind us are many valuable discussions and many important recommendations for the future shape of Poland and Europe” – said Wojciech Kuśpik summarising the jubilee edition of the event. He is the President of the Group PTWP, the initiator of the Economic Congress in Katowice.

Among the leading topics of the 10th edition of the European Economic Congress were inter alia: political changes in the EU; economy after Brexit; the hierarchy of values in the economy in the era of new generation of employees; the future of towns and metropolis; investments; IV industrial revolution, digitalization; electomobility; artificial intelligence; virtual, mixed and extended reality; Internet of Things (IoT); blockchain; robotics and automatization, as well as opportunities and threats arising from the expansion of new technologies in the world.
In the agenda there were also sessions dedicated to such areas of the economy and public life as: financial, innovations, technologies and human, education, energy and resources, mining and steel industry, management, local governance and regional policies, infrastructure, health market, transport and logistics, building industry and property as well as global economic co-operation.
The guests of the 10th European Economic Congress in Katowice (14-16 May 2018) were inter alia: representatives of the European Commission: Andrus Ansip vice-president for single digital market in the European Commission, prime minister of Estonia in the years 2005-2013; Miguel Arias Cañete – Commissioner of the European Union for climate and energy policies and Cecilia Malmström – Commissioner of the European Union for trade.
Polish government was represented by inter alia: Mateusz Morawiecki – President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Poland; Jacek Czaputowicz – Minister of Foreign Affairs; Teresa Czerwińska – Minister of Finance; Jadwiga Emilewicz – Minister for Entrepreneurship and Technology; Jarosław Gowin – vicepresident of the Council of Ministers, Minister of Science and Higher Education; Henryk Kowalczyk – Moinister of the Environment; Jerzy Kwieciński – Minister for Investment and Development; Krzysztof Tchórzewski – Minister for Rnergy and Anna Zalewska – Minister of National Education.
The President Janusz Cieślak represented the European Business Club Poland and took part in the inauguration session and in the following panels: “National Champions – ambitions and perspectives”; “Investments in Central Europe and in Poland”; “Foreign expansion of companies”; “Forum of economic co-operation ASEAN – European Union” and “ Geopolitics, security, economy”.
The 10th edition of the event was inaugurated by the representatives of the regional government: Wojciech Saługa – Regional Governor of the Silesian Voivodship; Jarosław Wieczorek – Province governor of Silesia; Marcin Krupa – President of Katowice; Kazimierz Karolczak – the Chairperson of the Board of the Upper Silesia Metropolis and Wojciech Kuśpik – President of the Group PTWP, initiator of the European Economic Congress.
In the inauguration session “Our New Europe” participated inter alia: George A. Papandreu, prime mnister of Greece 2009-2011; Iveta Radičová, prime minister of Slovakia in 2010-2012; Herman Van Rompuy, retired chairperson of the European Council, Belgian prime minister in 2008-2009 and Alexander Stubb, prime minister of Finland in 2014-2015, minister of finance in 2015-2016, vice-president of the Board of the European Central Bank. Experts exchanged opinions concerning the continent. In the first part of the debate the issue of European solidarity came up towards such issues like migration, trade wars, brexit as well as climate change.
Mateusz Morawiecki – president of the Council of Ministers in the Republic of Poland came to Katowice on the second day of the European Economic Congress. “Poland in 10 years will be a high-tech country, a country which will stun other countries as well as companies in the world with its modernity and its innovativeness. I believe that in this room are future winners of the Polish economy” – he said addressing the participants of the European Start-up Days. He also visited the stands of 100 best start-ups awarded in the competition Start-up Challenge which presented themselves in a specially dedicated Scale-up Alley in Spodek.

We encourage you to get acquainted with the latest book of prof. Joanna Paliszewska of SGGW, Chairperson of the Foreign Committee of European Business Club Poland written in co-operation with prof. Barbara Kożuch and prof. Sławomir Magala titled “Managing Public Trust” published by Palgrave Macmillan. This book presents theoretical and practical aspects connected with management of public trust. Results of research from seven countries have also been presented: Brazil, Finland, Poland, Hungary, Portugal, Taiwan and Turkey. The book consists of five chapters concerning the meaning of trust, types, dimensions and its role of trust in management; organizational challenges connected with public trust; the influence of social media on the development of public trust; the dynamics of public trust towards business and public trust in various cultural contexts.
On the 18th of April 2018 European Business Club Poland hosted Ms. Sylwia Romańczak – Deputy Director in the Department of Promotion of European Funds at the Ministry of Investment and Development. The meeting of the members and sympathizers of the Club took place in the Museum of Sport and Tourism situated in the Olympic Centre on ul. Wybrzeże Gdańskie 4 in Warsaw.
The meeting was dedicated to plans and intentions of the Ministry in the area of facilitating operations of small and medium enterprises, improvement of conditions of their functioning, eliminating existing development barriers, innovative actions geared towards the needs of entrepreneurs, increase in the effectiveness of using EU funds by entrepreneurs, presentations of existing forms of support and possibilities of obtaining the funds for innovative projects.
During the meeting attention had been drawn to an important aspect which are relations between state institutions and entrepreneurs. It is about their improvement also through introduction of a simple language instead of the typical official language which is very often hard to understand for a small or medium entrepreneur, elaboration of models and clear and transparent procedures equal for everyone. Above all entrepreneurs want to improve that co-operation and for clerks to show more will to help and openness for problems with which entrepreneurs have to deal with.
The participants of the meeting had an opportunity to take part in an open discussion with the Director Sylwia Romańczak during which questions had been asked about obtaining EU and other funds, attention had also been drawn to model solutions facilitating the everyday operations of entrepreneurs. As a significant problem the issue of long lasting waiting for work permits for foreigners which were once issued by The Office for Foreigners [Urząd do Spraw Cudzoziemców] in 1 day was raised however, now the waiting can last up to 6 months which then has a negative influence on the operations of the entrepreneur and the foreigner who despite their will cannot take up work.
The gathered entrepreneurs emphasized that they count on the support of the Ministry of Investment and Development in key issues concerning them. Ms Sylwia Romańczak with great interest listened to all issues and gave exhaustive answers. Entrepreneurs shared the will of yet another meeting during which together with the hosted Guest they could evaluate the changes in the indicated areas of interest.
At the end everyone could individually talk with the Guest of the Club as well as exchange opinions between the participants of the meeting.
It is worthwhile to mention that this was the first meeting within the series of “Meeting with the Guest of the Club” which took place in the beautiful Museum of Sport and Tourism situated in the Olympic Centre in Warsaw. The Guest of the meeting and the members and sympathizers of the Club had an opportunity to visit the rich exhibition of more than 45 thousand unique and original exhibits in the area of sport. On the 17th of April 2018 a third meeting of the new Management Board of the European Business Club took place. The meeting was held upon the invitation of the President of the Management Board in the KŁOS LATEST TECHNOLOGIES LTD. of Mr Zbigniew Kłos in Mościska (ul. Chabrowa 32).

The Chairperson of the Socio-Economic Committee Mr Czesław Gołębiowski as priority tasks for 2018 presented inter alia, tightening co-operation with the Economic and Development Committee of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland and with the Parliamentary group for the Support of Entrepreneurship and Economic Patriotism, co-operation with national and foreign economic entities in the area of: entrepreneurship development, establishment of new business contacts and undertaking an array of activities concerning economic co-operation.

The Chairperson of the Foreign Committee prof. Joanna Paliszkiewicz presented a plan and a vision of activities for 2018. In her speech she concentrated mostly on the co-operation with national and foreign economic entities as well as on the realization if the initiatives of the Management Board of EBC Poland inter alia, co-participation in the organisationof meetings of members and sympathizers of the Club with the representatives of the diplomatic corpus accredited in Poland, with the representatives of public administration, education and business in order to develop a network of international contacts.

The Management Board of the European Business Club Poland accepted the information and proposals of the Presidents of both Committees and accepted them for implementation.

On the 26th of March 2018 upon the invitation of the President Janusz Cieślak, Marek Magierowski – Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs was a guest of the European Business Club Poland. The topics covered at the meeting of the members and sympathisers of the Club which took place in the building of the Warsaw Stock Exchange at ul. Książęca 4 in Warsaw, were the directions of promotion abroad and the range and forms of support given to Polish entrepreneurs on foreign markets by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting was also an opportunity for wider debate on the economic relations between Poland and the European Union, the United States, China, India, Belarus and third world countries, as well as on the strengthening of the image and promotion of Poland on the international arena.

When greeting the guest, the President of the Association reminded everyone about the flow of professional career of the Minister and emphasised the currently occupied post – undersecretary of state for economic diplomacy, American, Asian, African and Middle eastern politics. He said that investing abroad can have many advantages but it requires a very good knowledge of local markets and obtaining the desired effects is connected with allowing for that much more time than one would when investing in one’s own country.
When giving his speech the Minister Marek Magierowski said that Polish companies more often are present on foreign markets even such which until recently seemed to be exotic and little accessible. They are often pioneers and therefore, they cannot rely on the experience of their predecessors. The problems which they face require solutions that take into account the local legal and social specifics. Despite many difficulties Polish companies are active in searching for new sales markets. The role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is above all creating an easy access for Polish entrepreneurs to foreign markets. The Ministry gives complex information both in the area of economy and those connected with everyday life and social moods in a given country. Entrepreneurs often expect help in complicated or non-standard situations. This is often in the case of so called “though markets” where the barriers of entering the market are high and the legal regime is not very clear to us and is definitely different from the one existing on the unified European market. On the “though markets” mechanisms making it difficult for foreign investors to enter the market are used which makes it necessary to undertake actions within the economic diplomacy. Individual interventions or official meetings with the participation of diplomats do not only open the doors but they also help in solving specific problems. The Minister emphasised that Polish companies can count on the support of Polish diplomatic posts and ambassadors. In particular the Ministry of Foreign Affairs undertakes various non-standard and often indispensable activities in order to effectively solve the problems of Polish entrepreneurs investing abroad. If Polish business is discriminated against the intervention of a diplomat is absolutely necessary. It is not only the sheer act of objection but also the effect of a positive solution of a given problem. Currently the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working on solutions aiming at strengthening procedures and better equipping the posts, so that they can undertake effective actions in the interest of Polish business.
The success of Polish entrepreneurs in the area of international expansion is not only the result of cost advantages. Polish economy is characterised by high innovation and very high level of production, which in connection with relatively low costs decides on the competitiveness of Polish companies. The ratio of quality to costs results in the more frequent presence of Polish entrepreneurs on demanding markets and they don’t have to be companies in the big scale production. It is worthwhile to look at companies which were successful in order to build one’s own development strategy based on their experience.
Minister Marek Magierowski emphasised that today Poland’s strategic interest is to pay attention to development and expansion of Polish companies. That is why during official visits apart from the political agenda on the one hand there is also a possibility to present to that country’s administration exemplary Polish companies which are ready to enter the local market. On the other hand companies have the possibility to show their offer and ideas for the investment in a given country. At the end not only those who make final decisions on the choice of products or obtaining business partners, but also the top level members of the administration of a given country get vast information on the Polish offer. If such presentation and exchange of information takes place within an official mission of the Polish government then the partners receive an important signal that the company is trustworthy.
In second part of the meeting participants had an opportunity to take part in a discussion and an open conversation with the Minister – Marek Magierowski.
The meeting ended with a cocktail during which everyone could individually talk with other participants exchanging own experience and opinions on such an important matter.
On the 6th of March 2018 upon the invitation of the President Janusz Cieślak PhD Orsolya Zsuzsanna Kovács – Ambassador of Hungary was a guest of the European Business Club Poland. She was accompanied by Otto Sipos – Trade Councellor of the Embassy.

The meeting of members and affiliates of the Club which took place in the Stock Exchange at ul. Książęca 4 in Warsaw was dedicated to discussion over Polish and Hungarian economic co-operation and problems making it harder and elements that make it easier as well as the perspecrive of its development.
When greting the guest the President – Janusz Cieślak emphasised that PhD Orsolya Zsuzsanna Kovács is an expert on Poland and is fluent in Polish. He also mentioned that the current visit is the continuation of extremely good relation of the Association with the Hungarian Embassy which started just after the European Business Club was established.
At the begining of her speech the Ambassador to Hungary presented information about the economy of her country emphasising a systematic Since 2011 fall in umemployment which currently is at 4%. She also mentioned tha lack of debt towards the International Monetary Fund, posesing enough of own savings due to conducting of disciplined budget policy and big confidence from investors. Then PhD Orsolya Zsuzsanna Kovács mentioned the most important issues which influence the tightening of economic relations between Poland and Hungary. An important element causing the development of such relations is an increase in the frequency of flight connections between Warsaw and Budapest operatem by PLL LOT. Polish Airlines LOT will also take Hungarian passangers on the route to Chicago and New York. The intention of Polish and Hungarian governments is to build close relations of both countries by building a motorway connecting Warsaw and Budapest as well as as fast rail, which will shorten travelling time a great Deal (currently it takes 12 hours to travell from Warsaw to Budapest). Economic and commercial co-operation is dynamically developing year to year: in the teras 2006-2016 the Polish-Hungarian trade exchange had almost double and in 2016 Poland was the 6th big gest trading partner of Hungary. The state of Hungarian direct investments in Poland by the end of 2015 reached the value of 790,3 milion euro, and the state of Polish investment in Hungary in that same timeframe amounted to 475,8 milion euro.

The meeting ended with great cocktail party during which everyone individually could talk to the Guests and exchange opinions with other participants of the meeting.
Maciej Kot, Stefan Hula, Dawid Kubacki and Kamil Stoch won bronze medals during the Monday Olimpic competition at the Big Ski Jump in the Korean Pyongchang. It is the first in history olympic team medal for Polish ski jumpers. In Saturday Kami Stoch won a golden medla on that smae ski jump.
We are pround, moreover that the team composed of ski jumpers: Maciej Kot, Dawid Kubacki, Kamil Stoch and Piotr Żyła is the Winner of the European Business Club Poland BENE MERITUS 2017 HIGHLY DISTINGUISHED for marking world standards in team ski jumping, promoting Poland in the Word and building positive social emotions. After the General Assembley a Christmas-New Year meeting took place. It had a nice Christams ambiance and was a time do summerize the passing year, shear professional success and common happiness because of the comming holiday season and reflection. The President – Janusz Cieślak in his speech thanked all the present for co-operation in the current year and wished them and their families Christmas nad New Year wishes .
On the 12th December 2017 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organised an annual pre-Christmas meeting the the Hotel Bellotto in Warsaw. The host of the event was Marek Magierwoski – UnderSecretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting was dedicated to summerizing the activities in the area of economic diplamacy realised by the Department of Economic Cooperation and diplomatic posts of the Republic of Poland in co-operation with the representatives of Polish business, government administration, local government and agencies and institutions actively operating in the ara of promotion of Polish economy as well as discussing plans in that area for 2018. The President of the European Business Club Poland – Janusz Cieślak was a guest at the meeting.
We are pleased to announce that the Laureate of the European Business Club VICTORIA EUROPAE 2017 EUROPEAN VICTORIA award Mr. Mateusz Morawiecki was appointed Prime Minister. He also kept his post as Minister of Development and Finance.
The management and members of the European Business Club Poland would like to give Prime Minister sincere congratulations and wish him success in the fulfilment of his function. We also express the conviction that, in his new role, Prime Minister will continue his activity which granted him the VICTORIA EUROPAE 2017 EUROPEAN VICTORY award in appreciation of his extraordinary merits and accomplishments in improving conditions for the growth of the Polish economy and raising its rank internationally. We anticipate fast implementation of measures for the development of small and medium-sized Polish enterprises and facilitation of their functioning as well as simplification, reduction and stabilisation of legislation in this regard.
Mateusz Morawiecki was born on 20th of June 1968 in Wrocław. He is a Polish manager, banker and a politician. On 11th of December 2017 he was appointed Head of the Council of Ministers, Minister of Development and Finances. From September 29, 2016 to December 11, 2017 he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Development and Finance. From November 16, 2015 to September 29, 2016 he held the office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Development. He obtained a degree in History at the University of Wrocław, Business Administration at Warsaw University of Technology and Central Connecticut State University, as well as receiving the MBA degree at the Wrocław Economic Academy. He is also an alumnus of University in Hamburg, University of Basel and Kellog School of Management of the Northwestern University, Evanston in the United States of America.
He began his professional career in 1992, in Cogito company. In the years 1993-1996 he worked for the Wrocław Enter Marketing-Publishing company. In 1995 he did an internship in Deutsche Bundesbank, and worked for University of Frankfurt am Main in the years 1996-1997. He is the co-author of a handbook on European law and economic integration. Between 1998-2001 he was a member of the supervisory boards of the Industry Development Agency and Electric Company Wałbrzych. He also sat in the regional council of Dolnośląskie voivodship during its first term. In 1998 he became Deputy Director of Department of Accession Negotiations in the Committee of European Integration and was a member of the body that negotiated Poland’s accession to the European Union (banking and Finance). Between 1998-2001 he worked in Bank Zachodni – first as an advisor to the Chairman of the Board, then as a Management member and the Executive Director. In June 2001, Mateusz Morawiecki became a member of the Management of Bank Zachodni WBK, and in May 2007 was appointed Chairman of the Board.
In 2013 he was awarded with the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity, in appreciation of his work for the independence and sovereignty of Poland and respecting human rights.
June 23, 2015, for his extraordinary merits in supporting and promoting Polish culture and national heritage, he was awarded with Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restitua.
He is fluent in English and German and speaks Russian.
