DSC_2871Michał Kleiber (born 1946), Full Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Academy’s President in the years 2007-2010, re-elected for the term 2011-2014.

Since 2007 Professor Michał Kleiber is the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

He specializes in the area of application of contemporary computer technology in academic research, technology and medicine. He is also occupied with the problems of pro-development state policy particularly the strategy of development of education, science and innovative economy. He is the author or co-author of more than 240 research works and 7 books published by world known publishers. He is the member of the editorial boards of a few international academic magazines, he is the Editor in Chief of a prestigious worldwide magazine “Archives of Computational Methods in Engineering” (Springer). He has been awarded many prizes including a prestigious state academic prize awarded by the Foundation for Polish Science as well as a medal of the Kingdom of Belgium for innovative achievements. He has been highly decorated by the President of France, Emperor of Japan. He has the honoris causa Ph. D. in Lublin, Cracow, Warsaw, Bydgoszcz, Gliwice, Darmstadt (FRG), Mons (Belgium) as well as The Polish University Abroad in London. He has also been chosen as a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, European Academy of Science and Arts in Salzburg and European Academy in London. He is the member of the Programme Council in the organization “Science and Technology for Society Forum” in Kioto, Japan. For many years he lectured at universities in FRG, USA and Japan. From 1995 until 2001 Professor Kleiber was the director of The Institute of Fundamental Technological Research Polish Academy of Sciences; in the years 1998-2001 he represented Poland in the Board of Governors of the EU Research Center as well as he was also a Polish delegate to the Steering Committee “Sustainable growth” within the V EU Framework Programme. In the years 2001-2005 he was the minister of science and IT, the chairman of the State Committee for Scientific Research as well as the chairman of the Government Committee for Offset Agreements. In 2005 Professor Kleiber was chosen as a member of the European research Council and the president of European Materials Forum. In 2006-2010 he was the Social Advisor of the President of the Republic of Poland for education and research.
